WORKING VISIT OF:
RICHARD SMART FLIYING VINE
DOCTOR AT PAGO DEL VICARIO
December 2004.
On Friday 17th December 2004, prestigious Australian viticulturist Dr Richard Smart, also known as the Flying Vine Doctor, visited Pago del Vicario.
The very same month, Dr Smart had received the award for Personality of the Year for Innovation from Wine International magazine. This was the first time the prize had gone to a viticulturist - winemakers, owners and high-profile wine personalities being the more usual recipients.
Dr Smart has been involved in our project at Pago del Vicario at all levels, from establishing and developing the vineyard to working closely with viticulturist Eugenio Roldán Núñez and technical director Susana López Mendiondo.

| After visiting the vineyards, Dr Smart was delighted with the progress that had been made and the work being undertaken.
A tasting with Susana López Mendiondo included wines for release in 2005:
PAGO DEL VICARIO 50-50, 2003, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon
PAGO DEL VICARIO MONAGÓS 2003, Syrah and Garnacha Tinta
Also tasted were two early-release wines from 2004:
PAGO DEL VICARIO PETIT VERDOT ROSADO, unique, according to Dr Smart: this was the first time he had tasted a Petit Verdot rosé.
PAGO DEL VICARIO CORTE DULCE 2004 Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Dr Smart was impressed by all the wines. He singled out for special praise the Petit Verdot rosé and the two reds, each of which had undergone 12 months ageing in barrel.
Dr Smart will be back with us in May 2005, in all probability to coincide with FENAVIN, the national wine festival in Ciudad Real.
